WELCOME TO THE PORT OF ILLAHEE’S WEBSITE!

12/1/18 NEWS FLASH

On 11/30/18 the Port of Illahee closed on the purchase of the vacated Illahee Food Store.  The purchase is subject to a Sheriff’s Sale to take care of any outstanding legal issues, presumed to happen in December 2018.  In addition to legal issues with the property, the site is contaminated with leaking underground fuel storage tanks that not only impact store property but also extend into county right-of-way.

The Port of Illahee moved forward with the purchase only after the State Pollution Liability Insurance Agency (PLIA) gave the Illahee site a ranking (Number 16) on their cleanup priority listing.  That high ranking assures eventual funding as the agency works down their list of approved cleanup sites.

The cleanup costs are noted in Cleanup Action Plan (CAP) for Illahee is $539,940.   A copy of the CAP is found at the following link 01-1129-B CAP-RT-ALLx.

While the possibility of other bidding for the store exists, it is anticipated the cleanup costs, coupled with the unknown issues with it going into the right-of-way, there will be no others bidding for the property.

NEXT PORT MEETING.    January 9, 2019

Change of Meeting Location to 8050 Illahee Road P

PUBLIC WELCOME!  Note the Port of Illahee will be meeting at a NEW LOCATION for the forseeable future, 8050 Illahee Road, the “Seeds of Grace” building (formerly the Gilberton Community Club building).  The reason for the change is the lower level of the Port of Brownsville’s Annex, where the Port of Illahee has been meeting, has been rented out and the upper level that has been offered to the Port for meetings is a shop area, accessible by garage doors and without heating.

PUBLIC REQUEST FOR HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBILITY.  The change of recent meeting locations was at the request of 6 Illahee residents with mobility issues that Port meetings be accessible for them, as they were when the Port was meeting outside of the abandoned Illahee Store during the summer/fall months.
